JNU to start first-of-its kind ‘Ayurveda Biology’ course


The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the country’s most prestigious university, is set to introduce a five-year BSc-MSc integrated course in ‘Ayurveda Biology’ and the application process is on.

“JNU to offer BSc-MSc Integrated courses in Ayurveda Biology. The entry to the course will be on the basis of the JNU entrance examination (JNUEE) conducted by NTA. The application process for the JNUEE is on and will conclude on May 15, 2020,” JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar tweeted.

The entry for the course, which will be started from the coming academic year, will be on the basis of the JNU entrance examination (JNUEE) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

“More people in Europe are interested in Ayurveda, the traditional healing art of India. The first university degree in Germany (MSc in Ayurvedic Medicine in cooperation with Middlesex University, London) sets a milestone for the professionalization of Ayurveda,” Kumar added.

The syllabus includes Ayurveda (based on ancient Sanskrit texts), molecular basis of Ayurvedic sciences, clinical and industrial aspects and pharmacological basis of Ayurveda. This is the first time, a course is rolled out that combines both modern and Ayurvedic sciences. The initiative is supported by the AYUSH ministry.

Meanwhile the NTA has issued the notification for conduct of the All India AYUSH Postgraduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET), which will be held online. The date of examination will be announced shortly.

The online registration (https://ntaaiapget.nic.in) is underway and the last date of application is June five. Candidates in possession of BAMS/ BUMS/ BSMS/ BHMS/graded BHMS degree or provisional certificate recognized as per the provisions of the IMCC 1970/HCC 1973 Act can apply.
