Ashwagandha extract market size to reach USD 1 billion by 2031, says report

The global ashwagandha extract market has experienced substantial growth and change over the years, according to a recent report published by market research firm DataM Intelligence. The report titled “Ashwagandha Extract Market Size 2024” reveals that Ashwagandha sales commanded a market size of USD 628.4 million in 2023 and were expected to reach USD 1063.6 million by 2031, exhibiting a CAGR of 6.8% during the forecast period.

The report says the growth is driven by increasing consumer adoption of ashwagandha extracts, including leaves and roots, for their medicinal properties. Used in dietary supplements and Ayurvedic medicine, ashwagandha is valued for its ability to alleviate pain and inflammation, treat insomnia, and enhance nutrition, among other health benefits.

According to the Ayush Ministry, studies have confirmed that a course of Ashwagandha root extract over eight weeks brought no adverse effects among participants and normal profiles were observed in their thyroid hormones and other parameters. Further, it affirmed Ashwagandha's suitability for consumption for both men and women.

Ashwagandha is a natural remedy for stress and anxiety that has been used for centuries in Ayurveda. Known for its powerful adaptogenic properties, Ashwagandha helps the body manage stress, improve cognitive function, and boost energy levels.

In Sanskrit, Ashwagandha means “the smell of a horse,” indicating the herb's vigour and strength. Ashwagandha is rich in iron, antioxidants, tannins, potassium, nitrate, fatty acids and glucose. It also contains withanolides (steroidal lactones), alkaloids, choline, and amino acids.

Ashwagandha has been used for over 3,000 years to tackle a variety of health issues, including stress, lack of energy and improving immunity. The use of Ashwagandha is expected to rise, given the increased global awareness about the efficiency of this herbal medicine in sustaining physical and mental health.
