CCRAS signs MoU with JNU for Research in Ayurveda

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) under Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) for cooperation in the field of Research & Development and Training in Ayurveda & Traditional Medicine in the presence of Minister of State (IC) for AYUSH and Defence, Sripad Naik, in New Delhi on 21 November.

Speaking on this occasion the Minister stressed upon the need for Translational Research in Ayurveda through interdisciplinary approaches for global acceptance and understanding of Indian Knowledge Systems of Medicine such as Ayurveda, and appreciated the efforts of CCRAS, JNU and ILBS for their initiatives that may open new horizons in this field.

Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Vice Chancellor, JNU Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar and Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dean (Research), ILBS were also present on the occasion.

The Research Collaboration with these Institutions is expected to be able to generate tangible evidences on fundamental principles of Ayurveda through multiomics studies and also safety, efficacy of Ayurveda interventions for emerging health challenges such as non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

It was also revealed yesterday that the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR) is being set up in Ladakh to promote traditional medicine. The Institute will be an autonomous National Institute under the Ministry of AYUSH with a mandate to undertake interdisciplinary education and research programmes in Sowa-Rigpa.

The CCRAS also announced earlier this week that it is teaming up with global health agencies to promote Ayurvedic medicines, while the AYUSH Ministry is cultivating medicinal plants along the Ganga river banks in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
