India assures support to WHO's Global Traditional Medicine Summit


India has discussed collaboration with WHO on global health matters and has reiterated support to the 2nd WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit to be held in New Delhi in December 2025, according to Dr P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to PM.

Mr. Mishra met the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Thursday on the margins of Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 in Geneva and discussed their partnership on the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre, outposted in Jamnagar.

Ghebreyesus expressed gratitude to Mishra for India's leadership on the Pandemic Accord adoption, and support of increased assessed contributions to WHO's work to advance health for all and commended India for its investment in health care infrastructure, the Ayushman Bharat scheme to expand universal health coverage, and in digital health.

The WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre will convene the second WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit, “Restoring balance: The science and practice of health and well-being,” on 2-4 December 2025

The inaugural WHO Global Traditional Medicine Summit was held in Gujarat in 2023 laid the groundwork, offering data, technologies, and insights to elevate Traditional Medicine in the global health agenda. Building on this success, the 2025 Summit will delve deeper into the scientific innovations shaping the field, addressing critical issues such as biodiversity protection, intellectual property rights and the transformative potential of AI, and will include announcements of new pledges, products, and innovations, WHO said in its website.
