Over 4000 perform Surya Namskar simultaneously in Gujarat, sets new record

The state of Gujarat entered 2024 in style with more than 4,000 participants across 108 locations and 51 different categories performing Surya Namaskar simultaneously, thus etching its name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The main venue of the record-breaking event was the Modhera Sun Temple, which saw enthusiastic participation from families, students, and even senior citizens. In 2023, Gujarat had set a similar record for most people performing Yoga together.

These two achievements have solidified the state’s commitment to wellness and cultural heritage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is from Gujarat, lauded the remarkable feat saying, “This is a true testament to our commitment to Yoga and cultural heritage.”

The event was verified by Guinness World Records adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar who officially announced the setting of the new Guinness World Record title.

“This is a new title because no one had attempted to break this record before. After going through all the evidence, officially, they have successfully set a new Guinness World Record title for most people doing Surya Namaskar,” Dangarikar said.

Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is a sequence of 12 powerful yoga poses, which, besides being a great cardiovascular workout, is also known to have an immensely positive impact on the body and mind. Other benefits of doing Surya Namaskar are:
