Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav is the new AYUSH Minister


Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav is the new Minister of AYUSH. Prataprao took charge on Tuesday as Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush.


Jadhav belongs to the Maratha community and is a member of the Shiv Sena party. He is a 3-time MLA and has also served as the Maharashtra State Minister for Sports, Youth Welfare and Irrigation. Jadhav first became a member of Lok Sabha in 2009, winning the seat from Buldhana Lok Sabha Constituency of Maharashtra.


He was elected again in 2014, 2019 and now in 2024. In Lok Sabha, he has held key positions such as Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology.


Jadhav succeeds Sarbananda Sonowal and his first major task as Minister of AYUSH will be the successful conduct of the International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21. Before taking charge, Jadhav planted a sapling at his residence. After assuming charge, he also took a pledge to donate his organs, the ministry said.


Ayush ministry has been one of the focal ministries of the Narendra Modi government during the previous two terms. The ministry was allocated a record amount of Rs 3,712.49 crore during the 2024-25 interim budget. This was a rise of 23.74 per cent from the previous year.
