Six Lakh Organisations Sign Up for Yoga Day Event with Prime Minister Tomorrow

Preparations for the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 on June 21 have gathered significant momentum, with more than six lakh organisations registering on the Ministry of Ayush's Yoga Sangam portal to participate in the nationwide yoga session.

The registrations mark a major milestone for the government's flagship Yoga Sangam initiative, which aims to bring institutions and communities across the country together through synchronised yoga sessions based on the Common Yoga Protocol. Participants are expected to perform yoga simultaneously with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the national observance of International Day of Yoga.

According to official data, registrations on the portal have accelerated in recent days, reflecting growing public interest in this year's celebrations. Educational institutions, government departments, private organisations, non-governmental organisations and community groups have signed up in large numbers to host yoga sessions at their respective locations.

The Yoga Sangam initiative seeks to decentralise Yoga Day celebrations by enabling organisations to conduct events independently while remaining connected to a nationwide movement. The digital platform serves as the central mechanism for registration, event coordination and participation tracking.

The programme has achieved nationwide reach, with registrations reported from all States and Union Territories and spanning 778 districts. Government institutions account for the largest share of registrations, with more than 3.22 lakh organisations enrolled. Nearly two lakh educational institutions have also registered, alongside over 16,000 private organisations, more than 5,000 NGOs and approximately 44,000 entities from other categories.

West Bengal has emerged as the leading state in terms of participation, recording over 2.76 lakh registered organisations. Rajasthan follows with nearly 1.50 lakh registrations. Other states reporting substantial participation include Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

This year's International Day of Yoga is being observed under the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing,’ focusing on the role of yoga in promoting physical well-being, active lifestyles and healthy ageing across generations.

The Ministry of Ayush has encouraged additional organisations and community groups to register their events through the Yoga Sangam portal ahead of the June 21 celebrations. Officials say the growing number of registrations reflects increasing public engagement with yoga and broader efforts to promote community participation in health and wellness initiatives.
