IDY 2025 is shaping up to be an event of epic proportions

With International Day of Yoga (IDY)  marking its 11th edition on 21st June 2025, the event also celebrates a milestone — a decade of global recognition of Yoga, a movement led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since its adoption by the United Nations in 2014.

To mark the 11th  edition of IDY, the Ministry of Ayush has announced 10 signature events that will shape this year’s celebrations:

  1. Yoga Sangam – A synchronised yoga demonstration at 100,000 locations.
  2. Yoga Bandhan – Fostering international partnerships through exchange programs between India and partner countries.
  3. Yoga Parks – Development of dedicated yoga parks for long-term community engagement.
  4. Yoga Samavesh – Inclusive yoga programs for children, seniors, persons with disabilities, and marginalised groups.
  5. Yoga Prabhav – A decadal impact study on yoga’s role in public health.
  6. Yoga Connect – A virtual global yoga summit featuring renowned experts and healthcare professionals.
  7. Harit Yoga – A sustainability initiative combining yoga with tree planting and environmental clean-up drives.
  8. Yoga Unplugged – Youth-focused events to inspire the next generation to embrace yoga.
  9. Yoga MahaKumbh – A week-long yoga festival across 10 cities, culminating in a grand celebration.
  10. Samyoga – A 100-day campaign integrating yoga with modern healthcare systems for holistic wellness.

This year’s flagship event is Yoga Sangam, wherein over 1 lakh yoga events will be held simultaneously on 21st June 2025, with the Prime Minister leading the national celebration from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The Ayush Ministry is expecting participation from over 5 lakh people for the event in Visakhapatnam. Over 10,000 organisations have registered for Yoga Sangam, the nationwide initiative that is poised to become the largest community-led wellness event in the country's history.

As part of Yoga Bandhan, Indian embassies and spiritual organisations across the world are organising yoga sessions which are seeing huge participation from enthusiasts and common people alike.

The development of Yoga Parks as community wellness assets will offer open-air spaces for daily yoga sessions, guided practices, meditation zones, and health education, promoting a sustainable preventive healthcare culture. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with Urban Local Bodies, Panchayats, and Yoga Institutions, with strong support from corporate partners through CSR, public sector units, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and social organisations. The parks will be sustainably maintained through landscaping, lighting, safety, and regular upkeep of amenities, ensuring they remain vibrant hubs of holistic well-being for communities across the country.

The other signature events are also being carried out through various private and public organisations, ensuring all-round participation from all sections of the population. More than 250 such events have already been conducted in the lead-up to IDY 2025. Since March 13, a series of daily countdown events—76 so far—have been conducted, reflecting enthusiastic participation from various countries in the lead-up to IDY 2025. Additionally, the Ministries of Tourism and Culture will host IDY events at 150 iconic tourist sites across the country.

India’s yoga ecosystem is already a billion-dollar industry, with over 5 crore households practising yoga daily, according to the latest NSSO survey. IDY has become one of the largest global movements, with an estimated 24 crore individuals participating in IDY 2024 across India alone. The IDY 2025 theme is "Yoga for One Earth, One Health", which resonates with the WHO’s theme of “One World, One Health.”

IDY 2025 is set to be a truly transformative experience. More than a single-day observance, IDY has not become an essential part of the global wellness movement. Every effort is being made to ensure that the 11th International Day of Yoga is celebrated at an unprecedented scale, reflecting India’s continued commitment to global health and wellness.
