Ayurveda and Homeo institutes sign MoU to develop higher quality medicines


A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Saturday between the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences – Captain Srinivasa Murthy Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CSMCARI), Chennai,  and the Commissionerate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (CIM&H), Arumbakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu to ensure higher quality and safety of Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines. 


The MoU outlines a collaborative framework for testing, training, and collaborating on “research studies for the standardization and evaluation of toxicity for the preparation of selected higher-order medicines.” The aim of the agreement includes testing of selected raw drugs and finished products for standardization of medicine, providing training and guidance to the laboratory of CIM&H, and preparation of selected higher-order medicines as per the terms, conditions, and guidelines of CCRAS Research Policy.


“This MoU marks a significant step towards strengthening the collaborative efforts between these premier institutions. It has set precedence for other states of India also, as they too can come forward and join hands with CCRAS, for various research and development activities,” said Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences.


The collaboration between these two premier institutes is expected to bring enhanced quality and safety of Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medicines, benefiting practitioners and patients alike and furthering the capabilities of the CIM&H laboratory by ensuring adherence to the highest standards. 


It also anticipates contributing valuable data to the scientific community thus ensuring the safety and efficacy of treatments and also to promote knowledge exchange and capacity building to foster innovation and excellence in Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy.
