Kanakasava and Trivrita Churna are effective against bronchial asthma, finds CCRAS study

Bronchial asthma is a respiratory disorder characterized by chronic airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness. Its symptoms include wheezing, cough, and difficulty in breathing. Treatment for bronchial asthma includes asthma inhalers and pills, as well as lifestyle changes to prevent exposure to situations that may trigger asthma attacks.

However, a recent clinical study conducted by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) has revealed that the Ayurvedic formulations Kanakasava and Trivrita Churna show significant efficacy in managing bronchial asthma.

The study was conducted across three

peripheral institutes of CCRAS and involved 210 participants diagnosed with bronchial asthma. Each participant was administered Kanakasava, 20 mL twice daily with an equal amount of water after meals, and Trivrita Churna, 3g once at bedtime with lukewarm water, for a duration of 12 weeks.

A follow-up period of an additional 2 weeks without any medication was conducted after the completion of the trial. The study measured improvements in lung function, symptom control, and overall quality of life. Peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR), which indicates how well air moves out of the lungs, and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), which measures the amount of air forcefully exhaled in one second, were assessed.

The results of the study were highly positive. PEFR improved from an average of 357.637 to 394.708, and FEV1 improved from 84.25% to 89.48%. Furthermore, there were significant improvements in asthma control and quality of life scores.

The study concluded that the Ayurvedic formulations Kanakasava and Trivrita Churna were effective and safe in reducing asthma symptoms and improving lung function in people with bronchial asthma. It also highlights the potential of Ayurveda in providing effective and safe solutions for respiratory disorders, improving lung function, symptom control, and overall quality of life.
