Scientific validation of Ayurvedic therapies, ethical promotion need of the hour


Ayurveda Day has evolved into a global health movement with over 150 countries celebrating the event, recognising Ayurveda not just as an alternative therapy, but as a comprehensive healthcare system, Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju said. He was speaking at the 10th National Ayurveda Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Ayush on September 23 in All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, the theme being Ayurveda for People and Planet.

He appealed for scientific validation of Ayurvedic therapies and emphasised ethical promotion grounded in research and tradition. He underscored the importance of preserving the authenticity of Ayurvedic knowledge while leveraging digital platforms like the NAMASTE portal and Ayush HMIS, which enhance accessibility and evidence-based practice. He said the theme was timely and relevant to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Besides, Goa has the potential to become a global hub for Ayurveda-based wellness tourism. 

While Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said Ayurveda is the Answer to Modern Lifestyle Disorders Like Obesity and Diabetes, Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav said the Day aligns with nature’s balance, autumn equinox, reflecting core Ayurvedic principles. Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Naik said Ayurveda offers time-tested solutions to today’s health and environmental crises.

National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2025 were conferred on Prof Bamwari Lal Gaur, Vd Neelakanthan Mooss ET, and Vd Bhavana Prasher for their contribution to Ayurveda and allied sciences

Several initiatives, including the nationwide Desh ka Swasthya Parikshan health assessment campaign and the launch of the DRAVYA portal, a digitised platform for Ayurvedic substances were launched. The event featured the opening of new facilities at AIIA Goa, including the Integrative Oncology Unit, as well as a new series of academic, industrial, and international collaborations through various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). Among the highlights were MoUs for academic exchanges, research in integrative oncology, and partnerships with global institutions and local organisations to advance Ayurveda’s integration into mainstream healthcare.

The Ran-Bhaji Utsav celebrated the diverse and health-promoting forest vegetables that form the foundation of Ayurvedic dietary practices. 

Several publications were released during the event.
