Ministry of Ayush Ropes in RJs and Influencers to Promote Yoga for Healthy Ageing Campaign

As preparations gather momentum for the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, the Ministry of Ayush on June 8 reached out to a key force shaping public opinion —radio personalities and digital influencers. An interactive RJ  and Influencer Meet held in Ayush Bhawan in New Delhi brought together prominent radio jockeys, content creators, social media influencers, and media professionals to strengthen public participation in this year's campaign themed ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing.’

Addressing the gathering, Alarmelmangai D, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, highlighted how the IDY has evolved into a global public health movement since its launch in 2015. She noted that yoga is now celebrated in more than 180 countries, reflecting its growing acceptance as a holistic wellness practice.

Emphasizing the significance of this year's theme, she said, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" responds to the increasing global need for solutions that support active, healthy, and dignified ageing. According to her, regular yoga practice can help maintain physical mobility, mental well-being, emotional balance, and overall quality of life across all stages of ageing.

The Joint Secretary also outlined several initiatives undertaken by the Ministry to make yoga more accessible and evidence-based. These include the development of ten yoga protocols for non-communicable diseases and specific population groups, the Yoga for Air Travel Protocol, and specialized yoga modules tailored to different age groups and health needs.

She reiterated the Ministry's commitment to promoting yoga throughout the year through its flagship Yoga 365 initiative, which focuses on community participation, institutional partnerships, and sustained public engagement beyond the annual observance on June 21.

Recognizing the growing influence of digital media, Alarmelmangai urged radio presenters and social media creators to actively support the IDY 2026 campaign. She encouraged them to share personal yoga experiences, create content around preventive healthcare and healthy ageing, spotlight inspiring stories, and help amplify the campaign's key messages among wider audiences.

The session witnessed lively discussions, with participants offering suggestions on improving outreach strategies, increasing audience engagement, and making yoga-related content more relatable to younger generations and diverse communities. Many creators expressed their willingness to contribute innovative content and support the nationwide awareness campaign in the lead-up to IDY.

The event concluded with a shared commitment between the Ministry and media stakeholders to transform IDY 2026 into a vibrant people's movement, encouraging citizens across age groups to adopt yoga as a way of life and embrace healthier, happier, and more active living.
