English documentary on Ayurveda highlighting its potential released

A new English documentary on Ayurveda titled `The Double Helix of Life’ that encompasses the entire spectrum of activities including its evolution from traditional formulations to more user-friendly current forms, premiered in New Delhi on June 11.

The screening of the film emphasising Ayurveda’s potential to transform global healthcare was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, who described it as a movement to create awareness about the uses of Ayurveda.

The 90-minute documentary has been produced by Dr A V Anoop under the banner of A V A productions and directed by national award-winning film maker Vinod Mankara. The Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India (AMMOI) was also a partner in its production. It features insights from 52 people, including doctors and medical scientists from India and various foreign countries.

The documentary is aimed at dispelling the myths about Ayurveda and highlighting its scientific validity while focusing on a holistic approach to managing chronic diseases. It offers a comprehensive view of the manufacturing sector, major hospitals, ongoing research, and clinical innovations in areas such as infertility, renal stones, and diabetic neuropathy apart from the aspects like the technology transfer in the development of Rejuran (skin rejuvenation treatment) and sustained-release dressing pads.

According to its director Vinod Mankara, who also wrote the script, the film discusses various significant aspects regarding Ayurveda like how Parkinson disease is treated in Germany by integrating the traditional Indian treatment system.

Experts from the World Health Organisation have also contributed to the documentary, which the director said would be screened in various countries.
