Ayush exports have doubled from USD 1.09 billion to USD 2.16 billion in the last decade, says minister

The Ministry of Ayush has witnessed a transformative journey over the last decade, positioning itself as a global leader in traditional medicine, said Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power, on Monday. The minister was briefing the press on the achievements of AYUSH from 2014 to 2024.

The Ayush market has grown exponentially, from USD 2.85 billion in 2014 to USD 43.4 billion in 2023, with exports doubling from USD 1.09 billion to USD 2.16 billion, the minister said.

With more than 755,780 registered Ayush practitioners and through digital transformation initiatives like Ayush Grid, e-Sanjeevani telemedicine, and AI integration, the ministry has ensured improved healthcare delivery to the common public, especially in remote regions.

The global presence of Ayush has significantly strengthened through strategic collaborations and initiatives. At the country-to-country level, 24 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed, complemented by 48 institute-to-institute level MoUs fostering collaborative research. There are also collaborations with over 103 countries to promote Ayush systems.

Notable agreements include the Donor Agreement between India and WHO, an MoU on Medicinal Plants Cooperation between India and Vietnam, and a landmark Agreement on Ayurveda between India and Malaysia. Initiatives like Ayush Visa and the Heal in India portal have propelled medical tourism, the minister said.

The International Day of Yoga 2024 achieved another milestone by reaching a total participation of approximately 24.53 crore. Social media engagement alone reached 34,890,990 individuals, while community radio stations contributed 2,600,000 participants. Internationally, Indian embassies and leading yoga institutes engaged around 545,000 people.

The minister also hailed the Desh Ka Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is expected to revolutionise health awareness across India. With this, India is poised to lead the world in holistic and sustainable healthcare solutions by leveraging technology, expanding research, and fostering global partnerships, the minister said.
