More than 150 countries to celebrate the 9th Ayurveda Day on October 29

The 9th annual Ayurveda Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. More than 150 countries are expected to participate in the celebrations, underlining the global reach of Ayurveda in the modern world. The main event of the day will be held at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, organised by the Ministry of AYUSH.

“Ayurveda Day has now become a global initiative. More than 150 countries are expected to participate in the Ayurveda Day celebrations in 2024. We aim to promote Ayurveda globally as a robust medical system for the welfare of the public,” said Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH.

The theme of this year’s Ayurveda Day is “Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health”. Under this, the All India Institute of Ayurveda has started a one-month programme across the country highlighting the contribution of Ayurveda to global health.

“The focus is on integrating Ayurveda with contemporary science to consider critical health issues including non-communicable diseases, mental health, antimicrobial resistance and ageing care. Knowledge about Ayurveda is now easily accessible through digital platforms under AYUSH GRID, including the AYUSH research portal and Namaste portal," said Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH.

Currently, Ayurveda is recognized in 24 countries around the world, while Ayurveda products are exported to more than 100 countries.

“The theme of 'Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health' highlights the relevance of Ayurveda to the healthcare of people around the world, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, social status and geographical boundaries,” said Dr Manoj Nesari, Advisor to the Ministry of AYUSH and Director of the Institute of North-Eastern Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), Shillong.

This year's event will also see significant participation from startups in the industry, which will establish Ayurveda at the heart of global health innovation.

“The special focus on innovation will attract and motivate our youth to get involved in Ayurveda and set up startups. I can already see the growing faith in Ayurveda in the people of the North Eastern states,” Dr Nesari said.

Since its inception in the year 2016, Ayurveda Day, which is celebrated every year on the holy occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti (Dhanteras), has gained global significance. The theme of this year's Ayurveda Day celebrations gives new dimensions to the contribution of Ayurveda to global health. Through innovation and collaboration, this ancient science is poised to provide sustainable solutions for global health and well-being in today’s world.
