Ayurveda one step closer to inclusion in Ayushman Bharat scheme


In a significant step towards expanding Ayurveda treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), a comprehensive report on the rationalization of Ayurveda package costs was submitted to the Ayush Ministry on Wednesday. 


The report, prepared by the Strategic Purchasing Committee under the Ministry of Ayush led by Prof. Bejon Kumar Mishra, Chairman and faculty from the FITM at the RIS, was submitted to Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, a post by the Ministry of Ayush on the social media platform ‘X’ revealed. 


The report is expected to be instrumental in the Ministry of Ayush's efforts to offer holistic healthcare to beneficiaries under the AB-PMJAY scheme.  


The meeting was attended by the representatives from FITM-RIS, Dr. Sarin, Dr. Namrata Pathak, and key officials from the Ministry of Ayush, including Sh. B K Singh, Joint Secretary; Dr. Kousthubha Upadhyaya, Advisor (Ayurveda); Dr. A Raghu, DDG, DGHS (Ayush); Dr. Debashis Panda, Joint Advisor (Ayurveda); and Vaidya Kusum Thapa, Research Officer (Ayurveda). 


This is a significant step towards the expansion of Ayurveda treatments as patients will soon be able to avail the benefits of Ayushman Bharat PMJAY schemes for Ayurveda treatments.


Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), popularly known as Ayushman Bharat Yojana Scheme, is the flagship scheme of the Government of India. It is essentially a health insurance scheme to cater to the poor, the lower section of society, and the vulnerable population.


The scheme offers financial protection in case of hospitalization due to medical emergencies. The scheme offers cashless hospitalisation services through the Ayushman Bharat Yojana e-card which you can use to get healthcare services at any of the empanelled hospitals across the country
