New Ayush wings in railway hospitals

The major railway hospitals across the country will soon extend Ayurveda treatment following the success of the Ayurveda facilities in Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) hospitals.

The Ministry of Ayush has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Railway for setting up Ayush units at the five Railway zonal hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Guwahati.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense integrated Ayurveda treatment into healthcare establishments under the ministry, and accordingly, 12 AFMS (Armed Force Medical Services) Hospitals and 37 Cantonment Board Hospitals have started offering Ayurveda OPD treatments with effect from June 1st, 2022. The initiative proved successful, with over 700 patients availing the Ayurveda facilities from the hospitals in the last few weeks.

Ministry of Ayush had a Central Sector Scheme namely, Champion Services Sector Scheme for Medical Value Travel. There were three components of this scheme i.e. (1) Establishment of Ayush Super specialty Hospitals / Daycare Centres, (2) Skill development in the Ayush sector and (3) Establishment of Ayush Grid.

For the establishment of Ayush Super specialty Hospitals / Daycare Centres, financial assistance as interest subsidies is provided to private investors.

The Ministry of Ayush has given shape to a scheme ‘AyurswasthyaYojana’ which mainly focuses on the up-gradation of facilities to the Centre of Excellence (CoE). The scheme will support the establishment and up-gradation of facilities of reputed institutions to strengthen Ayush professionals in education, technology, research & innovation, and other fields necessary for the promotion of Ayush at national and international levels.
