8 more AYUSH villages planned in Kerala

In addition to the existing eight Ayush villages, an equal number of new Ayush villages would be set up in the State, says Health Minister, KK Shailaja.

This has been approved by The Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine. With this, the number of Ayush villages in the State will total to 16. The Health Minister  added that this initiative will address lifestyle diseases and other non-communicable diseases which are seen to increase among the population due to unhealthy life-style and food habits.

The minister further added that as part of the programme, medicinal plant cultivation will be taken up in selected grama panchayats with the help of the Kerala State Medicinal Plant Board and Horticulture Mission. The new panchayats that have been selected for the AYUSH villages are Koothuparamba (Kannur), Kunnumal (Kozhikode), Ottappalam (Palakkad), Nilambur (Malappuram), Mananthavady (Wayanad), Irinjalakuda (Thrissur), Mallapally (Pathanamthitta) and Ambalappuzha (Alappuzha). It is learnt that the selected grama panchayats will be provided with  financial assistance of `10 lakh each.
