Ayush poised to become world leader in holistic health and wellness: Minister

Ayush is now poised to become the world leader in the realm of holistic health and wellness, said Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday. The minister was speaking during the inauguration of the new office building of the National Commission of Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) at Punjabi Bagh (West).

“Ayush is now well-known across the globe and is flourishing in an unprecedented way. The whole world has now recognized the power, efficacy, and inclusive nature of Ayush systems of Medicine,” said Mr Sonowal, adding that such recognition brings with it a level of responsibility to live up to.

“Global acceptance of Indian Traditional Medicine Systems has now placed much responsibility on the Ayush sector. Not only should the education system, but also the health delivery, products and services of Ayush be the best in the world,” the minister said.

The minister's view was shared during the roundtable conference organized by the Ministry of Ayush at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, the next day.

During the meet, the participants, which included leaders from diverse Ayush sub-sectors, called for investment in localized, high-quality supply chains, while collaborating with global partners to cater to international demand.

Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha pointed out the increasing number of entrepreneurs entering the field and stressed the need for pharmacovigilance systems to ensure Ayush safety.

“By putting more focus on medical value travelers and formulation of Ayush policies in specific states, we can unleash the full potential of Ayush as India’s soft power in global health,” said Mr Kotecha.
