Center making steady progress in AYUSH integration with mainstream medicine

AYUSH services had been allocated at 470 District Hospitals (DH) and 3,149 Community Health Centres (CHC) among other health centers, as of September 30, 2023, said Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharati Pravin Pawar in her written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

AYUSH has also been integrated with the new and upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to provide choices to patients for different systems of medicines under a single window.

“A Joint Coordination Committee comprising members from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Ayush has been constituted to work out the modalities involved,” the minister said.

It was also stated that a total of 1,64,478 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs had been established and operationalized till January-end. These AAMs were constituted by transforming existing Sub-Health Centres and Primary Health Centres (PHC) in rural and urban areas to include AYUSH services.

The expanded range of services includes wellness-related activities like yoga, cycling, and meditation as well as various preventive, promotive, curative, palliative, and rehabilitative services. On the whole, 3.10 crore wellness sessions were conducted in these AAMs as of the end of January 2024.

This is in addition to the 19.41 crore teleconsultation services conducted at the AAMs. Through all this, patients are ensured the opportunity to choose their preferred system of medicine, which is the primary aim of this initiative.
