Paying Tribute to Muhammed Majeed: A Remarkable Legacy

Muhammed Majeed, Ph.D., the founder and chairman of the Sami-Sabinsa Group - the largest exporter of natural nutraceutical ingredients in India - passed away on March 13, 2024, due to complications from surgery.

Dr. Muhammed Majeed hails from Kerala, India, where he spent his formative years. With a wealth of experience spanning over 45 years in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, molecular biology, nutrition, and cosmetics, Dr. Majeed embarked on his academic journey by obtaining a B Pharm degree from Trivandrum Medical College. Subsequently, he pursued further studies in the United States, earning an MS in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Industrial Pharmacy. During his tenure at esteemed pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, Dr. Majeed gained invaluable insights into cutting-edge technologies in healthcare product formulations.

Drawing from his diverse background, Dr. Majeed ventured into entrepreneurship by fusing technology with Ayurveda, marking the inception of a new chapter of success. He introduced innovative healthcare products derived from herbal actives and conducted research on the medicinal properties of plants not traditionally documented in Ayurvedic texts.

Founded by Muhammed Majeed, Sami-Sabinsa is a health science firm specializing in nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, standardized herbal extracts, fine chemicals, specialty chemicals, and probiotics.

Nutraceuticals are products derived from herbal products, minerals, vitamins, and dietary substances. They are said to have physiological benefits and/or boost immunity against diseases. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products made from bioactive ingredients, and are said to have medical benefits.

Throughout his career, Majeed received recognition from various Indian-American organizations and was honored as the "Father of the Indian Nutraceuticals Industry" at a virtual conference held by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in 2021.
