Live demonstration of Ayurveda surgical procedures held as part of Saushrutam 2024


The Department of Shalya Tantra at All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, organised the second national seminar ‘Saushrutam’ on the auspicious occasion of Sushruta Jayanti on July 15. The seminar started on 13th July and concluded on Monday. Live demonstrations of 25 complex surgical procedures were successfully demonstrated as part of the event. 


Prof. Sandeep Kumar, founder director of AIIMS Bhopal was the chief guest. The live demonstration of surgical procedures provided a unique opportunity for the participants to observe and learn various surgical techniques from renowned surgeons. The surgeries carried out included bhagandar (fistula-in-ano), arsha (hemorrhoids), pilonidal sinus, gall bladder stone, hernia etc.


The surgeries were carried out in both traditional Shayla methods as well as using newer techniques like VAAFT, Laparoscopy and laser technology. In the last one year, around 1500 patients have benefitted through AIIA’s surgical procedures.

HoD of Shalya Tantra Prof. (Dr) Yogesh Badwe applauded the dedication of team Saushrutam. "Team Saushrutam has worked with great enthusiasm and tirelessly, despite their professional commitments, to make Saushrutam 2024 a successful platform in every aspect," he said.


Padamshri Prof. Manoranjan Sahu, Founder Director AIIA Delhi; Prof. Anurag Srivastav, Ex-HoD surgical disciplines, AIIMS New Delhi and Dr MC Misra, former Director AIIMS were the guests of honours.  More than 160 participants took part in the event including PG/Ph.D scholars, resident doctors, surgeons, and faculty members from various parts of India.
