JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru, has secured accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Health Care Industry (NABH).
CEO of NABH, Dr. Harish Nadkarni presented the accreditation certificate to JSS in the presence of Suttur Seer Sri Deshikendra Swamiji at a programme held at the College premises here on Friday (15 December 2017).
JSS University VC, Dr. B Suresh; MLA Vasu; Mayor MJ Ravikumar; JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary, Dr. CG Betsurmath; Dr. Sivaprasad Huded and others were present. Prinipal Dr. Rajesh A Udapudi welcomed the gathering and Lavanya and troupe rendered the invocation.
JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital is the fourth institution in the nation to secure NABH accreditation. The other three institutions are All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in new Delhi, Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College, Palakkad and KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research, Belagavi, which offers courses in Ayurveda. Despite being a pioneer in teaching Ayurvedic medicine, the century-old Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital (GAMC), in the city is yet to catch up.
The JSS Ayurveda Hospital was started on MG Road in Mysuru in August 1992. Later it was shifted to a 15-acre campus on the outskirts of the city of Lalithadripura, at the foot of Chamundi Hill in 2011. The hospital is surrouded by a herbal garden, from where most of the medicines are produced.
Initially, the hospital catered to the needs of the poor and rural people of Mysuru, Chamrajnagar, Kodagu and Mandya districts. At present, it is attracting people from across the world.
Quality clinical services are extended to economically weak patients at affordable costs. Camps are organised at villages with free consultation amd medicines. Awareness camps like ‘Ayur life – Way of life’ are being conducted for corporate people.
R Mahesh, in-charge Director (Medical Education), JSS Mahavidyapeetha, said, as the institution has achieved a milestone, it will apply for National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation now.
“NABH accreditation is valid for three years and it will be renewed after periodical assessments. The NABH team can inspect the institution at any point of time to check for the standards. The institution has to achieve 581 objectives under 10 chapters to fulfil the criteria for NABH accreditation. It demands equal treatment for patients across various cost packages. Only accommodation facilities varies,” he said.
