Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is short-stemmed succulent
plant, native to northern Africa. It normally grows
to about 100 cm. It is easy to cultivate Aloe vera
in frost-free climates. It can also be cultivated
as a potted plant, but care has to be taken by enabling
seepage through drainage holes in the pot. It should
be allowed to completely dry and should be watered
only then. During winter, it requires very less water
and it the region is snowy, it should be kept indoors
or in a heated glasshouse. It is one of the richest
known medicinal herbs and is sometimes used as an
ornamental plant.
The gel of Aloe Vera is used to conserve
fruits and vegetables. It is a wonderful option when
compared to the synthetic preservatives like sulphur
dioxide available in the market. The gel also does
not effect the food products since it is to stolen,
colourless and odourless.

Neem:
A panacea for all ills
S. Rajasekharan and P. G. Latha
Vedic literature is
perhaps the earliest document of plant life. It has
been recorded that plant life began to flourish on
the Earth three yugas ago, which means many thousands
of years, before the time of the Devas. Vedic scholars
had deep insight and intuition, by which they unravelled
the hidden values and greatness of plants. They considered
plants to be of divine origin and worshipped them
as the “Mother Goddess”, by chanting verses
(‘Oushathi sookthas’), in praise of them.
