Treating and managing cancer has been a challenge for the medical fraternity. While western medicine approaches this disease with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, ayurveda and other complimentary system of medicine have a preventive approach towards cancer. Below are some habits which when practiced well can help you prevent and manage cancer better.
A) Just detox – Keep away from Industrial toxins, pollution from water, smoking (nicotine), bovine growth hormone, steroids, alcohol, caffeine, tea, chocolate, mercury from dental filling. This will help you detox and lead a healthy life.
B) Restore metabolic functioning – In Ayurveda, toxification means an unbalanced Vata ,Pitta and Kapha. According to ayurveda, our body is made up of the panch mahabhootas namely, Prithvi (Earth), Jala(Water), Vayu(Air), Agni(Fire), Aakash(Ether) and combination of these are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Therefore for proper metabolic functioning a balance of these doshas are essential as it can also prevent attack of diseases like cancer.
C) Sleep well to improve immunity – Interleukin-2 is a type of cytokine signaling molecule in the immune system that regulates the activities of white blood cells (leukocytes, often lymphocytes) that are responsible for immunity. It attaches to the cancer cells and guides the white blood cells to destroy them. This Interleukin-2 is known to increase during sleep. So, sleep is very important in tackling the cancer cells in the body. This indirectly or directly increases immunity of the body. Some ayurvedic herbs are known to help in improving the quality of sleep and some recipes like date milk also facilitate sleep. Date milk is rich in tryptophan amino acid which helps the body to produce neurotransmitters. “Turmeric” stimulates an enzyme Glutathione S – Transferase that gets rid of toxins from body and protects the DNA from cancerous attacks.
D) Include a diet of phytochemicals – Lots of veggies like broccoli, mustard greens, brussel sprouts, cauliflower etc. have phytochemicals that protect DNA, slow actual tumors by slowing down protein kinase (an enzyme sometimes implicated in growth of cancer cells), block Cyclo-oxygenase enzyme which prevents cancer supporters from actually creating cancers, and prevent carcinogens from forming nitrosamines. This would not be the case for meat consumers, and they will, thus, be exposed to a greater risk of developing cancer. So, the more you eat veggies, the more you discard meat and the more you are safe from cancer.
E) Lots of fruits like STEWED APPLE – Apple is rich in flavonoids that fight cancer and have an Orac value (oxygen radical absorbance capacity). Thus, apple provides the body high oxygen absorbance and in turn allows the absorbance of cancer radicals from the body.
F) Transcending meditation – When you actually meditate, the hormones in the body work in a very intelligent manner and the whole body gets the message of having a pure detoxifying DNA.
G) Herbs and complimentary treatments – Tinospora, Ashwagandha and Neem are known to arrest abnormal cell cycle and suppress pathways that compel the body to produce tumor. Turmeric blocks the effects of chemicals that are responsible for inflammation. Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology explains efficacy of varanadi ghritha in preventing loco-regional recurrences and occurrences of second malignancies. Pomegranate extract demonstrates a selective estrogen receptor modulator profile in human tumor cell lines and in vivo models of estrogen deprivation. Plumbin is considered as a possible therapeutic agent for hereditary breast cancers
Therefore, if we need a healthy life then we should avoid wrong diet and wrong lifestyle. We should adopt organic chemical free food and practice meditation. Being with nature and loving it can fill our body with oxygen and inturn make us healthy.
